Boca Raton Museum of Art Show

The show went well and was very well attended. We've decided to do several shows a year, so look for our schedule on our websites or in our newsletter. Since we plan to do shows, I traded in my Mercedes SLK-230 convertible for a Suzuki XL-7. It was pretty sad, as I bought the Mercedes several years ago with commission checks from my tech sales job. Guess I'm really letting go of that old life! I only hope one day soon I can buy a new convertible with sales from my art.

Deb and I learned a ton about what shows to do(from other artists at the show), how to set up our booth and what supplies etc are essential.

Living in a city can be an intense, spontaneous experience. They pulse with light and activity. Cities are industrious and busy by day. At night, their mystery and lushness come alive. A city can stimulation your passion and all of your senses. In my cityscapes, I try to capture the electric colors, stunning skylines and interesting architecture that can be found when visiting an urban jungle.
These paintings have wonderful pastel and jewel hues. You’ll get a hint of whimsy, however, I’ve added stark black lines and metallic/ neon acrylic paints to give them a modern edgy feel. My Urban Jungle paintings have been described as “Modern impressionism with a twist”, and as”Colorful, Bold and Joyful!”.

Watercolor Abstract

Yupo is a synthetic paper - and watercolor floats on top. As it the water dries, the pigment swirls and settles in very unique patterns.

After applying a variety of colors - including gold I let the it dry flat. After a lot of time studying the results, I decided it looked a like an abstract river bottom.

Paint removes very easily on Yupo - so I began to follow the patterns I saw and with a wet brush, removed areas of paint to create the ripples and bubbling water, swirling around rocks on the bottom of a creek.

Yupo has to be sealed - so I sprayed it with a Krylon sealant and this is the final result. An abstract watercolor!

It's 9"x11" and available in my store .

Inspiration: I love little towns and water scenes. Sunset or "happy hour" is my favorite time of day. Happy Hour is when you begin to feel at peace, kick your feet up, sip wine and enjoy the beauty of a transition into night. My Happy Hour Series is hypnotic because as the day transitions into evening, these paintings go from light airy gold into deep rich copper. Christine loves working in mixed media. She uses hand made papers, found objects sandy textures and loves to experiment. It's like playing with paints when we were all little, only now no one can tell her to quit being so messy. :-)

Christine’s paintings are bright and rich like a blue jay, fun like a kingfisher and witty like a crow. Inspiration from living amongst the trees at the edge of the Olympic Foresthas also prompted the desire to paint our feathered folk.

New Vacation Series Seascape by PMILLER

Here is my latest painting in the vacation series. I will be discussing the evolution of this series (in addition, later I will be discussing the evolution of my other series Kung Foo Circle Series). Both I originally started 5 years ago as a hobby and now that I am painting full time, all of my paintings have begun to evolve adding more metallics(in different colors), slight changes to the basic feel of the series and more. If you've watched my work for awhile on a casual basis, you are probably nodding your head saying, "Yeah I was wondering why in the series, I see paintings that vary a little in style/feel AND why some of the series is available only in prints". Now you know!(or my customers who follow me are saying, "I knew that!" because they own the original).

My husband brought home these lovely Narcisssus the other day. I couldn't resist painting them. I used artist quality Daniel Smith and Holbein watercolors on Artistico Cold Press paper. It measures 9"x12" but mats nicely in an 11"x14" frame with an 8"x10 opening (see below).

Beware the Seller who makes money off high shipping costs

You know what? I'm getting so irritated with mean nasty people out there that leave retaliatory feedback for no reason at all. Mean. Thank goodness it wasn't on my art eBay account Heather-Sky-Studio-Gallery

I bought three items in the last few weeks on this account christine-wasankari. I paid for them immediately but asked first, hey...can you combine shipping? I mean really...I've been on eBay for years and know the game (my other account heather-sky-studio, where I sell my original art) and have really worked hard to make sure that I am commiserate with current shipping costs. Most of the time I've eaten the difference and under charged.

So here I have this other account. I buy some goods, pay for them right away. I leave a postitive feedback to the seller, though warn other potential buyers of high shipping costs and no real break. They sent me the package for flat shipping at 9 dollars and charged me 25.

Then they come back and leave me three negatives!!??? WOW!

Let me get this straight:

I buy their goods

I ask for combine shipping they will only give me 5 off

Ok, I pay for it right away

I get the package wow, it's 9 bucks not the 25 I paid

I leave a POSITIVE feedback, with warning of high shipping.

Then I get three NEGATIVES.

Does this seem retaliatory to you guys? I mean wow...I'm kinda bummed.

*sigh*

Thanks for reading this far. I guess there isn't much I can do but warn people to be very very careful. VERY very careful.

Did I make the point yet to be really aware...and careful.

Follow up::

I've had a small amount of conversation with the seller and they will not withdraw the negative feedback left to me. Never mind they are mean spirited and don't like to be called on their crooked business practice of charging astronomical shipping fees.

I left three positives stating item as described, shipping too high. They retaliated with three negatives. Then just said good luck dealing with eBay, almost knowing nothing will be done. I've reported this...we'll see where it goes. I'm very unhappy that this can even happen.

Buyers, be very very careful! :-( Bad apples out there.

Found out that I my underactive thyroid took a turn for the worse(needed new meds) and that my vitamin D levels were super low. "The Crows at St. Hubert's"

The church at St. Huberts was built in 1054 and still sits in Idsworth, England. It is said to have been visited by Knights on their way home from crusades. In my painted version, three crows fly overhead, circling the surrounding cornfield as dark clouds loom in the distance. It's a moody, impressionistic, representational piece of art.

"The Crows at St. Hubert's" is an original watercolor painting on 100% cotton 140lb cold press Artistico paper with artist quality paints. It measures 8.5"x11" and is the perfect size for a mat with an 8"x10" opening.
